George Evans has cleared the air regarding the embarrassing incident involving him and Wayne Rooney after the Reading vs Man Utd tie.

Reading player George Evans has explained the reason he chose to snub Man Utd captain Wayne Rooney when the England captain seemed to be requesting for a shirts swap after their FA Cup tie. Man Utd won the match 4-0 thanks to goals from Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford (brace).

Rooney's goal was his 249th for Manchester United, which makes him the joint top-scorer for the English club alongside fellow legend Sir Bobby Charlton. The ex-Everton man now needs to score one more goal to become the red devils' all-time top scorer.

Back to the George Evans story, the fact that he is a former Man City player and a life-long member of the club raised eyebrows on social media, and triggered some level of excitement among some of the sky blues' fans on the same platform.

But the player, after realizing that he was trending for snubbing Rooney, took to Twitter to clarify his actions. According to the 22-year-old, he did not want to swap shirts on the pitch as he was having a dissapointing day, but he did exchange shirts with the player in the tunnel. He also posted a photo of Rooney's shirt which he wore during the match as evidence of the exchange.
