It's been three months since Chicharito last scored a goal for Bayer Leverkusen, but fans are now aware of the reason that might have caused the Mexican ace to fail in front of goal.
According to team President Rudi Völler, Chicharito's mind was out of focus since his girlfriend, journalist Lucía Villalón, came down with a lung disease before the year ended.
"His girlfriend's disease has been a burden Chicharito needs to overcome," Völler stated.
Hernández and Villalón started dating since the striker's playing days with Real Madrid.
But with the beginning of 2017, Völler believes the Mexican ace will turn things around and help Die Werkself reach the Bundesliga's top spots once more.
"We think that things can only improve. We expect him to return to his old goal scoring self in no time," Völler added.
The interview concluded with Völler denying claims about a possible transfer involving Chicharito, since British newspapers linked the striker with a move to Chelsea.
"Letting Chicharito leave the club is something I can't imagine," the former striker concluded.
