The world's most expensive squad could welcome another two high-priced stars.

Manchester United already have the most expensive squad in history, and the world’s most expensive player ever in the form of Paul Pogba. Nonetheless, they look to continue their spending spree in order to return to their glory, glory days.

Recent reports, as cited by the Independent, state that the Red Devils are plotting a move for two Atletico Madrid players. The first is Antoine Griezmann, arguably the breakout star of 2016; the other is rising Spanish starlet Saul Niguez.

The link between Jose Mourinho’s side and Griezmann is nothing new. A report by the Sun in December stated that the 20-time Premier League champions were keen on landing the Euro 2016 star for £60m, with the player himself ready to push for a Madrid exit.

The 25-year-old is an undeniable talent who can score and assist at will. Man United’s reliance on Ibrahimovic for goals could see them suffer should the Swede suffer an injury, thus highlighting the need for more additions in the attacking department.

Saul, on the other hand, is seen as a long-term replacement for Old Trafford veteran Michael Carrick. The Spaniard can play anywhere in midfield, and is thus capable of defensive cover for the back four.

The Atletico Madrid duo won’t come cheap, however. Both of their release clauses total a whopping £145m, but a January exodus could see them balance the books.

Man United continue their push for a top-four finish in the league. Currently in sixth spot, they travel to face West Ham on Monday.
