2016 was an eventful year in which several highs and lows occurred in the Premier League. However, the English top-flight bid farewell to this year with one of the most disappointing games: Liverpool 1-0 Man City.
It was boring because fans were expecting an exciting affair, but were instead treated to a dull tie. An early goal from Georginio Wijnaldum earned the hosts all three points, with little else following.

Two stats perfectly sum up how lackluster the last Premier League game of 2016 was. Firstly, for a healthy portion of the game, Simon Mignolet had more take-ons than Silva; Lallana; Mane; and Toure. The goalkeeper had the most take-ons for Liverpool (1) after 60 minutes, level with Firmino and Clyne.
Successful first-half take-ons:

Silva: 0
Toure: 0
Mane: 0
Lallana: 0
Wijnaldum: 0
Mignolet: 1
In addition to that, there weren’t many attempts in the first-half. In fact, after the second half kicked off, both sides only had one attempt on goal each. The Reds scored with theirs; the Citizens didn’t.
Lastly, this game saw Sergio Aguero return from suspension. If you didn’t notice, you can be forgiven, as the Argentine was missing for the entire game. In fact, he didn’t even touch the ball once in the opposition’s penalty box.
0 - Sergio Aguero didn't have a single touch of the ball in the Liverpool box in his 90 minute appearance today. Stifled.
