Serie A - Matchday 17 overview
As things stand, Juventus still lead the way. With a four-point gap over Roma, the Bianconeri will finish matchday 17 on top of the league table, regardless of what happens in Saturday's big game. However, given that they have a Supercoppa Italiana tie with AC Milan coming up before the Christmas break, Massimiliano Allegri's men will naturally want to make sure they can extend that gap to seven points by maintaining their impressive record at Juventus Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Rossoneri, who were unbeaten since losing 1-0 to Udinese on September 11th, will have to pick themselves up after suffering a narrow loss to the Giallorossi this past Monday. They will be welcoming Atalanta, a team who were enjoying a rich vein of form before having their nine-game unbeaten streak snapped by Juventus. With Lazio and Napoli looming, Milan will obviously want to pick up all three points in Saturday's match, but La Dea will be loath to lose three straight games on the trot.
Elsewhere, Lazio take on Fiorentina, whilst Inter will hope to take advantage of Sassuolo's bad form. The Nerazzurri have had a disappointing campaign thus far and find themselves barely hanging on to a top ten spot. And at the bottom of the table, the battle to avoid the drop is in full swing. Crotone will hope that their hard-fought win over fellow strugglers Pescara will be of help against an Udinese side full of confidence following a 3-1 win against Atalanta.
