Willem II set a new Eredivisie record losing their seventh consecutive home match against De Graafschap on Wednesday.
Willem II were trying to avoid another negative record, but they could not avoid losing their seventh home match in a row on Wednesday. Goal keeper Niki Mäenpää blundered on a Sjoerd Overgoor shot and gave away the three points in the remainder of the abandoned match against De Graafschap.

Roda JC and FC Utrecht put up an exciting match in Kerkrade on Wednesday. FC Utrecht got a well deserved draw when they got back from the first half 1-0 by Ruud Vormer.

The 13280 spectators who chose to go to the stadium to watch Roda JC and FC Utrecht play a delayed Eredivisie match instead of watching Champions League football on the television were rewarded with an exciting match. The home team started well, but the visitors eventually got control and got a well deserved draw in the second half: 1-1.

Utrecht coach Ton du Chatinier chose to keep Ricky van Wolfswinkel out of the starting lineup, but he must have regretted that decision in the 62nd minute. The visitors were awarded a penalty and Van Wolfswinkel converted all previous six spot kicks for Utrecht this season. With the joint Eredivisie top scorer on the bench, Dries Mertens took the penalty and the Belgian midfielder missed. To Du Chatinier’s relief Edouard Duplan turned in the rebound.

Roda, who had a good start with Ruud Vormer scoring the 1-0 in the 25nd minute, climbed to sixth place on the table, two points ahead of number nine FC Utrecht.

Willem II were trying to avoid another negative record, but they could not avoid losing their seventh home match in a row on Wednesday. The ‘Tricolores’ conceded one goal in the remaining 31 minutes of their abandoned Eredivisie encounter with De Graafschap. No other club in Eredivisie history started the season with a seven game losing streak at home.

Coach Gert Heerkes has changed back to Niki Mäenpää as first choice goalkeeper last Sunday, but the Finnish goalie is on the brink of losing his place in the starting lineup again after he gave away the only goal in the match against De Graafschap. Mäenpää let slip a Sjoerd Overgoor shot. Overgoor replaced Rydell Poepon with the ‘Superboeren’ because the top scorer broke his nose during the 3-1 win against Roda JC last Sunday.

“You could easily become hopeless this way, but we have to fight on”, Willem II captain Arjen Swinkels said. His club are rock bottom with 2 points from 15 matches, 7 less than VVV-Venlo, who are second last.
