The seeding process must adhere to two set of rules – a club cannot face an opponent from the same country. Secondly, if they two clubs were in the same group, they cannot face each other at this stage.
Who will face who?
By virtue of being group winners, Arsenal’s possible opponents include Benfica, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Sevilla, FC Porto or Real Madrid. Out of the possible opponents, Benfica would be a better choice for the Gunners considering the fact that the Portuguese giants have had the worst defense at the group stage of the competition.
Premier League defending champions Leicester City could face Bayer Leverkusen, Sevilla, Real Madrid, PSG, Benfica or Bayern Munich. A trip back to Portugal to face Benfica would be the best choice for the Foxes. Even though they were hammered 5-0 by another Portuguese side FC Porto, the hammering was as a result of Ranieri’s decision to pick a weaker team since they had already qualified as group winners.

Manchester City could go up against Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Monaco or Napoli. The Sky Blues will be hoping to face either Napoli or Monaco as they are the underdogs in this scenario, but a meeting with BVB, Juve or Atletico could make things even tougher for Pep’s men in their quest to win the UCL title for the first time.
In Europe, defending champions Real Madrid could come up against Arsenal, Monaco, Napoli, Juventus or Leicester. Their rivals Barcelona could face PSG, Bayern Munich, Porto, Benfica, PSG or Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern Munich could play against Juventus, Leicester, Arsenal, Barcelona, Napoli or Monaco. And lastly, French giants PSG could be paired against Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Leicester City, Napoli, BVB or Barcelona.
