Liverpool's German manager believes this generation of footballers is 'quite professional', hinting that Rooney's actions should be overlooked.

Wayne Rooney's antics away from the pitch were the talk of the week, but according to Jürgen Klopp, Manchester United's striker should be cut some slack.

Speaking in a press conference today, the former Borussia Dortmund manager revealed he didn't believe Rooney did anything wrong. If anything, fans and experts should try to understand it's necessary for all players to blow off some steam.

"I'm really sorry this happened, especially for the players. This generation of footballers is one of the most professional of all time, and not only in England. In the end, they're all human beings," Klopp stated.

But his words concerning Wayne Rooney's behaviour after the game against Scotland really stood out, as the German boss is one of the few to have shown the player their support.

Rooney is still in doubt to play for Manchester United during this weekend's clash against Arsenal, not because there has been any disciplinary action executed against him, but because he carries a knee problem that left him out of the friendly match against Spain.
