Can the USMNT overturn their Costa Rican road hoodoo?

Costa Rica

The last meeting between Costa Rica and the USMNT ended as a 4-0 humiliation for Los Ticos. A lot has changed since then, and the hosts will come into this match having won their past five games, including a 2-0 result against Trinidad & Tobago. Oscar Ramirez appears to have brought stability to the side that had gone through a rough patch after impressing at the 2014 World Cup. And they will be relying on their strong home record against the USA as they hope to upset the proverbial apple cart to clinch a spot at the upcoming World Cup in Russia in less than two years' time.

The Stars and Stripes find themselves in a tough spot after losing 2-1 to Mexico last week. It marked the first defeat for the USMNT against the Mexicans in Columbus, Ohio, and that loss wasn't just even more tough as it was to a bitter rival. In addition, the visitors now will have to make do without no. 1 shot-stopper Tim Howard, who suffered a groin injury and will unfortunately have to miss the rest of the season.

Brad Guzan now will be the man between the posts, and there are concerns about his sharpness as he's not the no. 1 choice at current club Middlesbrough. Furthermore, the USA's frustrating record in Costa Rica, coupled with their opponents' red-hot form could mean a really tough test ahead for Jurgen Klinsmann's men.
