Just hours after Everton boss Ronald Koeman openly admitted that he would love to sign out-of-favor Man United winger Memphis Depay in January, the Merseyside club have dropped a huge hint that they are indeed monitoring the Dutchman. The 22-year-old joined the English giants in the summer of 2015 from PSV at a time when he was widely seen as one of the most promising youngsters in the world of football.
But he failed to live up to the expectations that came with the huge 25 million-pound price tag – he has only made 33 league appearances for the Red Devils since his arrival and scored only two goals yet by the time he was joining the Old Trafford outfit, he had scored 22 league goals for PSV Eindhoven and emerged the top goal scorer in Eredivisie in the 2014/15 season. Speaking to FOX Sports Netherlands programme De tafel van Kees, Koeman said:
"I would like to have him (Depay).I think he is an interesting player. He has great individual qualities. He just needs to play games."
And when the starlet silenced his critics by scoring a brace for the Netherlands in their 3-1 win over Luxembourg on Sunday, the Toffees seemed to be confirming their interest in having him at the Goodison Park in January.
