Match facts and other historical stats

  • Croatia have only lost two out of their last 21 games played on home soil
  • The Vatreni have lost just one match since the start of 2016
  • They have also won 13 and drawn the other two in their past 15 games at home
  • Iceland have lost seven out of their last ten road games
  • During that period Strákarnir okkar have also shipped a whopping 21 goals
  • Iceland have scored just once in their past four meetings with Croatia
  • However, they have scored in all of their last 17 fixtures

Two familiar foes meet up yet again: Will either side see their unbeaten run end?

Croatia

Croatia didn't start their World Cup qualifying match on the best footing as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Turkey on matchday one. However, the Vatreni have since rebounded well as they cruised to a 6-0 win over debutants Kosovo and ground out a 1-0 victory against a stubbornly defensive Finland side courtesy of a goal from Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic.

Although the hosts have lost Fiorentina's Nikola Kalinic to injury, Ante Cacic has been able to welcome back Real Madrid star Luka Modric back into the fold which will naturally give an already strong home side an even bigger boost. So far, Croatia have yet to lose to Iceland and have conceded just one goal, whilst scoring nine, and they will obviously be keen to add more to that total against a foe who are not as solid when featuring as the away side.

Iceland

Iceland are quite strong at home, but not so much on the road. Oddly enough, the tiny nation, who made history at this summer's Euro tournament and won millions of neutral hearts worldwide, simply appear to be an entirely different side when not on home turf. Still, Strákarnir okkar are tied on seven points with their upcoming opponents and will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten run as they chase a first-ever appearance at a World Cup tournament.

Ironically, it was Croatia who denied them a chance to feature in Brazil during a play-off several years back, and so Iceland will love nothing but to get some revenge on their upcoming opponents. However, they will be missing both Udinese's Emil Hallfreðsson and striker Björn Bergmann Sigurðarson, who plays his club football for Norwegian side Molde due to injury.
