That man is none other than Tim Howard, with the veteran goalkeeper advising his team-mates against what he sees could be detrimental to the United States’ chances of beating Mexico. He said (as per the Major League Soccer’s official website):
“You can never let your guard down,” he explained. “Mexico is too good of a team. They always have been. We have to prepare the right way. You can never let it become old hat, because that's when you get caught.”
The former Everton shot-stopper makes his return to the national side after a long absence. Howard decided on taking a sabbatical after their impressive 2014 World Cup campaign; as a result: Klinsmann favored Brad Guzan over Howard even after the 37-year-old’s return.
Having played second-fiddle in the 2015 Gold Cup and 2016 Copa America Centenario, Howard is back and ready to make the number 1 spot his own once more.
