One of the big talking points prior to this game was the Presidential Election which resulted in Donald Trump's appointment as the 45th president of the United States. Since Mr. Trump is not a big fan of Mexican people, captain Michael Bradley admitted he wants his fans to show respect for the away team and their supporters.

Even the American Outlaws, one of the team's most famous support groups, issued tweets regarding that matter.

On the away side, coach Juan Carlos Osorio called up the best team he could assemble to try and defeat the USMNT for the first time in Columbus.
