Will Beşiktaş clinch top spot? Or will Napoli rebound after a weekend loss?

Beşiktaş

At the start of matchday three, it appeared that Beşiktaş's Champions League campaign were already in tatters. The Turkish powerhouse had yet to win a single game and were facing a team that had been quite strong on their home turf. However, after an entertaining 90 minutes of action at the Stadio San Paolo, it was the Kara Kartallar (Black Eagles) who departed with all three points in hand. A brace from Vincent Aboubakar, which included a late winner was enough to give Şenol Güneş's a much-needed win.

They now will be hoping to make it back-to-back positive results to complete a remarkable turnaround that now has them in contention to qualify for the round of 16. The victory over Napoli also finally ended a long-standing hoodoo against Italian teams, but they will still have to be wary, as they have yet to win a match at home versus teams from Serie A. In terms of personnel, the hosts will be missing a few faces for this match, with Talisca and Caner Erkin definitely out whilst Oğuzhan Özyakup and Necip Uysal are in doubt.

Napoli

Napoli could have created Champions League history if they had beaten Beşiktaş on matchday three. The Partenopei were sitting quite comfortably on top of their quartet and could have become the first team to qualify for the round of 16 after just three matches. However, their hopes were dashed as Beşiktaş snatched a late winner to blow things wide open and set up what will be a very interesting matchday four this Tuesday.

Maurizio Sarri's side will be coming into this match having lost 2-1 to Juventus on Saturday. In perhaps the most cruel blow of all, former striker Gonzalo Higuain was the one to score the game-winner for the Bianconeri, and now Napoli will have to re-group and refocus in order to make sure they can maintain top spot and inch closer towards securing their spot in the first knock-out rounds. The on-going long-term absence of Arkadiusz Milik has really hampered the team as the Polish striker had started off quite well since his move from Ajax. However, he and Raul Albiol will be the only absentees for the visitors for this game.
