The Mexican Clásico will bring all the excitement this edition of the Copa MX lacked. Can América avenge their 3-0 defeat from August, or will Chivas prevail?

Match facts

  • América has won five of the last ten Clásicos against Chivas.

  • Since Matías Almeyda's appointment as Chivas' coach, his crew has beaten América twice, both of them at Azteca Stadium.

  • This will be the fifth match between these Mexican giants in 2016. Las Águilas have won twice, Guadalajara has taken home the win once, while adding one draw to their stats.

Team news

Given the relevance of this match, Club América will try to get some payback against their bitter rivals. Coach Ricardo La Volpe, who previously worked for Chivas in 2014 and was fired after just four games, steps into this match with a six-game streak without a loss. A win against Chivas would help him get some credibility, and will also settle a personal score against "El Rebaño Sagrado" and its owner, Jorge Vergara.

Back in May, América defeated Chivas with a great counter attack. Can Oribe Peralta work his magic against Chivas one more time?

On the other side of the pitch, Matías Almeyda's crew saw their unbeaten streak in Liga MX come to an end this Sunday, but given their good performances at Azteca Stadium recently, there's cause for hope among their followers. If Guadalajara wants to damage the hosts, Almeyda will hope for a good performance by Isaac Brizuela, who scored a brace against Las Aguilas two months ago.
