West Ham could face stern test against high-flying London rivals Chelsea

West Ham

What a difference one season can make. The Hammers, who finished in seventh last term, are now struggling to even crack the top half of the table. Slaven Bilic's men only recorded their third win of the season as they edged out Sunderland, and that also marked their second consecutive victory. Having lost their season opener against upcoming familiar foes Chelsea, the hosts will be hoping to get some kind of measure of revenge by ending their League Cup campaign at this juncture.

However, the Hammers are still unfortunately beset by injuries. Arthur Masuauku, Diafra Sakho, Gokhan Tore and Sam Byram are out, whilst key striker Andy Carroll is still struggling in his recovery following an ankle problem. Ghanaian international Andre Ayew also will not be fully fit enough in time to feature in this match.

Chelsea

Simply put, beating a title rival is always a great thing. It's even better when it's a resounding 4-0 result, as Chelsea fans worldwide were treated to in Sunday's blockbuster tie with Manchester United. And new coach Antonio Conte definitely feels that the victory, which is Chelsea's third on the trot, will keep the good times rolling as they take on West Ham on Wednesday evening:

Chelsea faced a tough draw in the previous round, but rebounded to overturn a 2-0 deficit to beat Leicester City 4-2. Although Kurt Zouma has resumed training, the young French defender still has not totally recovered following his ACL injury sustained back in February and so will not be available for selection. Meanwhile, both Cesc Fabregas and Brainslav Ivanovic, who missed out on the clash with Manchester United, may also not be selected for this game, but John Terry, who was on the bench, will likely be re-instated into the starting XI.
