The striker missed a crucial penalty for Argentina against Paraguay, which could have secured a point at home despite the absence of Lionel Messi.

After what has been a disastrous international break for Sergio Aguero, the striker admitted he wouldn't be surprised if he was left out of the squad that will face Brazil and Colombia next month.

Speaking to the press after missing a crucial penalty for La Albiceleste against Paraguay, Aguero admitted he wasn't fortunate enough to back his controversial words on the pitch.

"I wouldn't be surprised if I'm not included in the squad next month. My performances weren't good enough," Aguero stated.

The striker was harshly criticized by fans and experts, who believed "El Kun" was thinking too highly of himself when he stated this generation would be missed by those who criticize them, even if they haven't won a single trophy in more than 23 years.

Manchester City's ace went on and tried to reach out to those fans who booed him throughout the game, hinting that he understands their frustration.

"The truth is that they think exactly like us. They want to win. You can feel their pressure when your on the pitch. It is what it is, and today wasn't a good day for me. Maybe my time will come some other day. I can understand why they're mad, they come to see you do a good job and we've let them down, Aguero added.

Argentina is now fifth in the South American qualifiers. As of now, La Albiceleste would need to fight for their spot in the World Cup via a play-off, just like in 1993.
