Team news

South Africa

Simply put, Shakes Mashaba's job is on the line. The South African football federation have grown impatient with the team's progress under his tenure, and if reports are to be believed, a loss in this game will be the final blow. A very disappointing 1-1 draw with Burkina Faso in World Cup qualifying action last week did not impress anyone, and Mashaba's position is even more shaky as the team failed to qualify for the 2017 AFCON tournament. As such, the team's executives have their sights on seeing the team return to the international stage for the 2018 World Cup, but they will definitely have a lot of work to do to make that dream a reality.

Keagan Dolly, Tebogo Langerman, and Hlompho Kekana are all unavailable as they have returned to club duties with Mamelodi Sundowns, but there are still quite a few notable players available as they prepare to welcome the Black Stars later today.

Ghana

Meanwhile, Ghana's Uganda hoodoo continues as the Black Stars were held to a very poor scoreless stalemate. The fact that this took place in front of the home crowds adds insult to injury, and with Egypt winning their game, Ghana could find it tough for their next fixture - especially considering that the Egyptians will be looking for revenge following their humiliation a couple of years ago.

Avram Grant has allowed quite a few players to depart, as all the major leagues in Europe - Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, and Ligue 1 - are set to commence starting this Friday. As such, the Israeli tactician won't be able to call on Afriyie Acquah, Jonathan Mensah, Jordan Ayew, Jeffrey Schulpp, and Richard Ofori. However, key names like captain Asamoah Gyan as well as Christian Atsu are all at their manager's disposal as he hopes to start getting things right ahead of their showdown with Egypt next month.
