Team news

PSG

Despite strolling to their fourth straight Ligue 1 title last term, PSG have not found things as smooth sailing as they would have liked. Unai Emery's first term in the French capital has been a lot tougher than expected, and Les Parisiens come into this game sitting on 13 points. Yes, the season is still young, but so far, PSG have lost two games already in seven rounds. That's equal to the total number of games they lost last season in Laurent Blanc's final year in charge.

Players who had excellend last term - namely Angel Di Maria - have struggled to find their footing so far, and given that he dished out 18 assists in just 29 league appearances, fans will hope to see the same player emerge as quickly as possible. Having suffered a 2-0 reversal to Toulouse, Emery is naturally seeking a victory for his side to alleviate some of the growing pressure on his shoulders. In terms of personnel, Jese, Hatem Ben Arfa, and Adrien Rabiot are all in doubt due to respective injury problems.

Bordeaux

Tied on points but behind on goal difference, Bordeaux, who were sitting in fifth spot before matchday eight kicked off, will of course be extra fired up for this fixture. Les Girondins have been pretty solid thus far and ended up drawing both meetings with PSG last term. This includes an impressive 2-2 result at the Parc des Princes, in which Kevin Trapp had a nightmare of a game.

The visitors will have to make do without Valentin Vada, Maxime Poundjé, and Nicolas Maurice-Bela as a result of injury, whilst Diego Rolan is now back from suspension and could be paired with Jérémy Menez up front. Having had to settle for a draw in their last game, Bordeaux will be looking to take advantage of PSG's less-than-steady form to snatch at least a point heading into the international break.

Broadcast info - Metz vs. Monaco

Who's playing: Monaco are looking to usurp Nice at the top of the Ligue 1 table as they travel to take on Metz on Saturday evening.

What time: Saturday, October 1st at 11:00 PST/14:00 EST/18:00 UTC/19:00 BST/20:00 CET

What stadium: This game will be played at the Stade Saint-Symphorien. Located in Metz, it has a max capacity of 25,636.

Match facts and other historical stats

  • Monaco have won their last three games against Metz, whilst maintaining clean sheets in all of those matches
  • In fact, Les Rouges-et-Blancs haven't conceded a goal to Les Grenats since December 2, 2011, when they lost to Metz 2-0
  • Metz's last home win over Monaco was on March 4, 2006 (2-1)

Team news

Metz

Although they are one of three newly promoted sides, one would be certainly forgiven for forgetting that Metz were in Ligue 2 last season. In fact, Les Grenats didn't even win the championship in the second-tier, and rather secured their spot in the top flight by finishing third. However, it's been pretty solid for Philippe Hinschberger's men, who have shown immense mental fortitude to successfully bounce back from a 3-0 defeat to PSG to go on a three-match unbeaten run before being halted by Bordeaux. That being said, they will be coming into this game having ground out a 1-0 result against Montpellier.

Monaco

Despite suffering a 4-0 humiliation by a rampant Nice side, Leonadro Jardim's team have been quite excellent overall. Les Rouges-et-Blancs successfully saw off Villarreal to earn their spot in this season's Champions League, and so far have managed to pick up four points from their first two games against Tottenham and Bayer Leverkusen. Currently on top of their quartet and second in Ligue 1, Monaco will surely look to try to see off Metz and potentially head into the international hiatus on top of the table.
