Analysis

Bayern Munich-Hertha: Battling for top spot

Both Bayern Munich and Hertha will be coming into this game tied on nine points, but die Roten enjoy a superior goal difference. Whoever wins, of course, will head into matchday five on top of the table. In addition, Carlo Ancelotti's men - who only conceded their first goal of the entire season in a 3-1 win over Ingolstadt - not surprisingly have the head to head advantage in this fixture. Bayern have won their last ten meetings, whilst keeping clean sheets in their past four consecutive matches. In addition, Hertha have not beaten Bayern since Valentine's Day in 2009 and one will have to go back to October 29, 1977 to find the last time die Alte Dame managed to get the better of die Roten in Munich.

The hosts will welcome Jerome Boateng back from injury, and the German international may be re-instated into the starting XI. Meanwhile, Philipp Lahm, David Alaba and Thomas Müller all return to the fold after missing the game against Ingolstadt due to illness. As for the visitors, Pal Dardai will be missing both Vladimir Darida and Ondrej Duda as a result of injury, whilst American international defender John Brooks is struggling with a muscular complaint and may not be fit in time for this game.

Bayer Leverkusen-Augsburg: Eager to begin climbing the table

Roger Schmidt's men finished in an impressive third last season, but things have not gone as well for them this season. They have won just one game across all competitions - a 3-1 win against Hamburg on September 10th, and had to settle for a disappointing 2-2 draw with Russian outfit CSKA Moscow in their Champions League fixture. Having won their past six home games, including scoring at least two goals in five of those, Bayer Leverkusen will certainly hope that their good record against upcoming opponents Augsburg will help them get back on track.

In fact, Bayer Leverkusen have never lost to Augsburg in a competitive fixture. Their sole loss was a 2-0 result during a July 2012 friendly, but they have drawn their last three meetings. So congested are things in the table at this point that a win could see either Augsburg or Bayer Leverkusen could overtake Wolfsburg, who sits in ninth on five points and thus move into the top half of the table.

Schalke-Köln: Hosts hoping to end drought

Three games into the season, Schalke are in a very uncomfortable position. Not only have they failed to win a single game, but also are the only team remaining in the Bundesliga yet to score a goal. Even Werder Bremen, who also has yet to win a match, has scored twice. New manager Markus Weinzierl is already feeling the heat and will hope to rebound against Köln - but that will be easier said than done.

If Schalke have struggled so far, die Geißböcke have thrived. Two wins and a draw see them sitting on seven points and they will naturally be looking to make it a fourth game sans defeat. Visits to Schalke's home ground have gone pretty well for Köln, who have come out on top in their last two trips to VELTINS-Arena.
