The German midfielder has been training with the U-21 squad since his return from the UEFA Euro 2016, as he was deemed surplus by Jose Mourinho.

Bastian Schweinsteiger's time as a Manchester United player seems to have come to a rather abrupt conclusion after today's developments.

The German midfielder seems to have had his contract terminated by the Red Devils, as it was confirmed that the club did not include Schweini's wage in their financial results, as per reports by the Daily Mirror.

The financial report states that the sum of £6.7 million -supposedly Schweinsteiger's market value- was not included to avoid giving their investors a wrong idea.

"Exceptional costs for the year were £15.1million...and £6.7million related to a registrations' impairment charge regarding a reduction in the carrying value of a player no longer considered to be a member of the first team playing squad,"the report states.

Schweinsteger hasn't featured in any of Manchester United's games since Mourinho took over as coach this summer. While some reports suggest the 32-year old could join Marseille during the winter transfer window, Schweinsteiger has clearly stated he will not play for another European club.
