Remember that Gold Cup semi-final match between Mexico and Panama that got Los Canaleros kicked out of the tournament after some dubious calls by the ref? Well, Honduras surely doesn't want that to happen again.
Speaking after Friday's match against Canada, Honduras' boss Jorge Luis Pinto criticized the game's ref, and even stated that Honduras' Football Association will ask CONCACAF not to send Mark Geiger to the crucial match against Mexico on Tuesday.
"He had an appalling performance during the match between Mexico and Panama last year, and now, they want Honduras to deal with him. We will ask for the referee to be substituted," Pinto stated
The Costa Rican manager was talking about a questionable penalty awarded to Mexico during the last minutes of the Gold Cup semis played by El Tri and Panama last year, which gave Mexico a life line and eventually had them winning that game after extra time.
Honduras' coach also blamed Friday's ref for allowing the Canadians violent tackles while dismissing the chance of handing them yellow or red cards.
Los Catrachos need to get at least one point to avoid elimination. If the Central American team loses against Mexico, Canada will have a chance to eliminate them if they score at least five goals against El Salvador in the final group match for Benito Floro's crew.
