Just as there appeared to be light at the end of the tunnel for Bastian Schweinsteiger’s future at Manchester United, the German midfielder has been handed a new blow by Jose Mourinho.
The veteran midfielder has been excluded by the Special One from the Red Devils’ Europa League squad, as the Portuguese boss could find no space on the 27-man team.
This will only add fuel to fire that the former Bayern Munich ace will soon leave Old Trafford after being told by Mourinho that it will be "very difficult" for the German to ever play again for the 20-time Premier League winners.
This comes only a day after the 32-year-old World Cup winner was included in Manchester United 25-man Premier League squad, though he has been exiled into training on his own and with the u-23s since Mourinho’s arrival.
Schweinsteiger, with only two years remaining on the three-year deal he signed last summer, recently admitted being open to a Major League Soccer move. The retired German international said in a press conference (as per ESPN FC):
"My dream still is to play for Manchester United. If I get a fair chance, I believe in it. I believe in my abilities. Until my suspension it went really well last year, after that the two injuries happened. But America is naturally an option."
Man United, who were placed in Group A alongside Feyenoord, Zorya and Fenerbahce, begin their European with a trip to their Dutch opponents on 15 September
