Team News

USMNT

The last meeting between the USMNT and their upcoming opponents not surprisingly ended as a 6-1 comfortable win in favor of the Stars and Stripes. As such, Jurgen Klinsmann's men are by far the heavy favorites to take all three points from this must-win fixture. With Guatemala just one point behind, anything less than a victory, coupled with a win for the Central Americans, could put the USA in a rather uncomfortable position heading into their final match against Trinidad and Tobago.

However, the USMNT will arrive in Kingstown with quite a few players unavailable. Current captain Michael Bradley is suspended, whilst star attacker Clint Dempsey is out for an indefined period due to an irregular heartbeat. Other absentees include Gyasi Zardes (broken foot), John Brooks (injured back), and Jermaine Jones (knee problem).

Nonetheless, with the quality of players still available for selection, including Jozy Altidore, Darlington Nagbe, Bobby Wood, and Alejandro Bedoya, Team USA are expected to nonetheless get the job done and move on to their clash against Trinidad & Tobago taking place next week.

St. Vincent & the Grenadines

As for Friday's hosts, they are already eliminated from this competition. The minnows, nicknamed the Vincy Heat and led by former defender Cornelius Huggins, have lost every single one of their last four matches, whilst conceding 19 and scoring just three. Still, there were some positives from their qualifying campaign, including shocking the USA with an early goal and nearly picking up what would have been a vital point against Trinidad & Tobago.

For all intents and purposes, no one expected the tiny nation to get out of their quartet. St. Vincent & the Grenadines have never qualified for any World Cup. And their only notable international participation was featuring at the 1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where they crashed out in the group stages. Suffice it to say, it will be simply a case of salvaging some pride and trying to keep the score-line as respectable as feasible in front of their home support.
