In what can be considered one of the best seasons of his career, Cristiano Ronaldo has taken jome the 2015-2016 UEFA European Player of the Year award. In a nomination that raised a lot of controversy for snubbing Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez among others, the Portuguese superstar was elected after winning the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid, while helping Portugal to win its first-ever UEFA Euro trophy.

Spanish Football Federation president Angel María Villar revealed the news to the world.

The Portuguese ace beat Gareth Bale and Antoine Griezmann to the prize. Particularly, the Frenchman was sort of CR7's client, as he lost the UEFA Champions League title against the tournament's top striker, and one month later ended up losing the UEFA Euro 2016 at home while facing Cristiano's Portugal, although the player wasn't on the pitch due to a knee injury.
