Roma's chances of making it to the UEFA Champions League Group Stage were cancelled by one of their star players...and the man who took his place on the pitch.
As the Giallorossi were down 1-0 against Porto, Daniele de Rossi was sent off after staging a horrific tackle against Maxi Pereira. The game's ref immediately sent him off, even before knowing that Pereira would have to come off as a result of that tackle.

To make matters worse, the man that was supposed to take De Rossi's spot at midfield was involved in a similar incident. Emerson Palmieri came on as a holding midfielder, but he lasted only eight minutes on the pitch after a horrific tackle against Jesus "Tecatito" Corona.

Soon after Emersón's red card, Miguel Layun and Jesús Corona sealed the deal for the visitors, forcing Roma to play the UEFA Europa League.
