Team news

Chelsea

So far, so good for new manager Antonio Conte, who has overseen back-to-back wins over West Ham and most recent, Watford. After the utter disaster of a campaign last season which concluded with Chelsea in tenth spot, Blues fans are hoping that Conte will be able to help revive the team's fortunes. And the former Azzurri boss has plenty of experience doing that, having turned Juventus from a struggling fallen giant to the top side in Italy during his three years in Turin.

Conte will likely opt to rest a slew of key players for this game, especially considering that this should be a straightforward win for the hosts. As such, players like Michy Batshuayi, Victor Moses, Asmir Begovic, and perhaps even Cesc Fabregas could get some game-time and feature from the start.

Bristol Rovers

Last season, Bristol Rovers were in League Two, but now have moved up a tier after securing a third-place finish in English football's fourth level. The Pirates, who have been under the tutelage of Darrell Clarke since 2014, have won just one out of their four league fixtures, but are at this juncture in the EFL Cup thanks to a narrow 1-0 win over Championship side Cardiff City.

Having already knocked out a team in a higher tier, Rovers will be hoping to pull off what would be a shock upset at Stamford Bridge. Should they manage to defeat Chelsea - against all odds - it would be the first time since the 2000/2001 season that they defeated a Premier League side. 16 years ago, the Pirates held on to eliminate Everton via spot-kicks, and they will be looking for their first win against Chelsea in over 35 years.
