With most EPL teams ready to begin the season with a full squad to choose from,some others like Arsenal are still trying to add some talent to their squads...particularly because they had almost every bid they made rejected.
Arsene Wenger tried all summer to add another top-caliber striker to boost his attack, but his top choice snubbed the Gunners to sign a contract extension with his team, and those who have been willing to listen are way out of Wenger's league.
With that in mind, and while still trying to add Riyad Mahrez to his team, the French boss needed to look elsewhere and sign a defender, since two of his main center backs came with long-term injuries. As Per Mertesacker and Gabriel were ruled out for the beginning of the season, Wenger's bid to sign Valencia's Shkodran Mustafi may be the Gunners' only successful negotiation for a top target this summer.
