Barely a week after scoring a hat-trick for Montreal Impact in the MLS against Philadelphia Union FC, Didier Drogba went from hero to zero real quick in the club’s next fixture. The Ivorian, who has two hat-tricks in his MLS career, received an easy red card against DC United over the weekend.
The Chelsea legend was shielding the ball against Marcelo Sarvas of DC United in the 81st minute at the heart of the midfield but was overpowered, hence losing possession to the opponent. Probably due to frustration, he tripped the player and knocked him with his knees right under the referee’s nose. The center referee could hear none of his appeals and the result was a red card, which was loudly applauded by DC fans. The 38-year-old is now set to miss the next match for Montreal Impact against Houston on Saturday. The match ended in a one-all draw.
