New Man United boss Jose Mourinho has told nine Man United players to leave the club this summer.

NINE. That is the total number of players Jose Mourinho is planning to offload from Man United this summer, according to English publication the Daily Mail. The Portuguese boss has been tasked with the main responsibility of restoring the Red Devils back to greatness following a series of disappointing seasons since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure from the club in 2013. The widely-travelled manager now believes he can still steer his new employers back to their lost glory without nine players in his current squad.

Bastian Schweinsteiger will be first superstar to be dropped, according to the report. The Germany captain has been struggling with injuries since his arrival at Old Trafford last summer and could become a great liability to Mou’s plans for next season. The other eight players are Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Adnan Januzaj, Tyler Blackett, Will Keane, Paddy Mc Nair, James Wilson, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Andreas Pereira.

Wilson was also given the chance to stay, but only if he agrees to play for the club’s U21 side. A total of 12 clubs have reportedly enquired about Wilson’s signature and he is expected to decide his future before the beginning of the new season.

The nine candidates for the axe did not train with the rest of the squad on Thursday, a clear indication that Mourinho might have made his final decision. Earlier today, world-cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger announced his retirement from international football and could as well switch to Turkey to link up with former Man United player Robin Van Persie at Fenerbahce.
