Javier Mascherano has officially agreed to a new and improved three-year contract with Catalan giants Barcelona.

After speculation that the full-back was on his way to join Juventus, Los Blaugranas have squashed any possible moves for the centre-back.

During the presentation of newly signed Andre Gomes, the director of institutional relations Albert Soler confirmed that the Argentina international is set to extend his stay with Messi and Co.

"We don't have to talk about him,

"Javier Mascherano and Barça have reached an agreement for him to continue at the club."

"We celebrate that this improved contract allows Javier to stay for three more years and this was one of the pending issues we had to resolve."

Since joining La Liga club from Liverpool in 2010, the defender quickly earned a regular starting position in the line-up and has made 282 appearances for Barca thus far.
