Analysis

Pep and Mourinho were bitter rivals during their days in La Liga when Jose Mourinho was in charge of Real Madrid and Pep in charge of Barcelona. Their switch to the Premier League now gives them yet another chance to renew their rivalry in the Manchester Derby.

Man United head into this fixture without some of their key players. The likes of Anthony Martial, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Marouane Fellaini, Matteo Darmian and Pep’s nemesis Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Fans of the Red Devils will have to wait a little bit longer to watch their new signing Zlatan in action against Pep’s men, and this could give the Spanish tactician an added advantage.

The Red Devils played quite poorly against Dortmund on Friday, especially in the midfield. Memphis Depay wasted numerous chances in front of goal and had to be substituted. If the task against BVB was difficult for the Red Devils, they should expect a more difficult outing against the Citizens on Monday.

Pep, having lost by a solitary goal to his former employees, is expected to give the Sky Blues the bragging rights even before the league kicks-off in August. With Mourinho still trying to find the perfect combination in his squad, he might as well lose this clash to the ex-Barcelona boss.
