Chelsea are on the search for a new addition to the striker’s department, but their shortcoming in finding a world-class forward in this summer transfer window has led them to make a mammoth – even crazy – bid for Alvaro Morata.
The Spanish striker was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge – alongside London rivals Arsenal – since Antonio Conte, the man who brought the 23-year-old to Juventus, agreed to take over the Blues.
However, Real Madrid had other plans, deciding on activating the buy-back clause inserted in the deal that saw Morata leave the Bernabeu. Los Blancos needed only to pay £23.5m to bring their youth product back to the Spanish capital.
Conte, though, has not given up on signing the Furia Roja ace, with Cadena SER reporting that Chelsea have made a huge bid for Real Madrid’s attacker.
According to the Spanish radio station, the London giants offered £62m for Morata. To make things more interesting, despite popular belief that Real Madrid resigned Alvaro merely to raise funds for a major summer signing, the 11-time Champions League winners turned down that mega offer.
This report comes as question marks continue to remain over Diego Costa’s future at Stamford Bridge, despite Conte rubbishing rumors of an exit.
Chelsea may have to look elsewhere for a new striker, or, dare we say, up their offer for the Real Madrid forward.
