Broadcast info

Who's playing: Both Basel and Wolfsburg will be keen on getting back on track after suffering defeats in their respective friendlies. For the Swiss champions they are still seeking their first win of this summer. So far, Urs Fischer's men have managed to salvage one draw - against lower tier side 1860 München - and have lost their other three pre-season matches, including a recent 1-0 reversal against Monaco, despite fielding a strong line-up featuring new signings Seydou Doumbia and Mohamed Elyounoussi.

Meanwhile, Wolfsburg took an early lead against Celtic, but it was not enough to prevent Dieter Hecking's side from succumbing to a 2-1 loss. For those who viewed the game, the team's lack of overall match fitness was quite apparent, and a clear lack of communication between the back-line was instrumental in allowing Celtic to snatch two goals. The fact that key players like Julian Draxler and Andre Schurrle are reportedly set to depart certainly will not provide stability to the team, either.

Team news

Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg endured a disappointing campaign last season. They were the victims of a 5-1 loss to Bayern Munich, during which Polish star Robert Lewandowski set a whole bunch of records after scoring all five goals. Overall, they won just 12 games, losing 13, and drawing the other nine, and as such, missed out on a potential Europa League spot by five points.

Wolfsburg's first friendly ended as a 14-0 win, albeit it was against lower tier side Veltins-Auswahl. Fans will be very concerned about the potential exodus of key players this summer and will be hoping that their team will not be utterly dismantled before the start of the 2016/2017 Bundesliga term.

Basel

For Basel, their domestic campaign kicks off this Saturday, and they will be seeking to pick up a win to assuage the concerns of fans. It's not been a great summer for the reigning champions as they chase an eighth consecutive league title, and predictably, they have been somewhat active on the transfer market.

They did lose promising youngster Breel Embolo to Schalke, but brought in the aforementioned Doumbia and Elyounoussi from Roma and Molde respectively. Doumbia arrives on a one-year loan from the Giallorossi, whilst Elyounoussi arrives on a four year contract from the Norwegian side.

Having already lost to Lausanne Sport, Zenit, and most recently, Monaco, Fischer will be naturally demanding a much better showing from his men ahead of the beginning of the 2016/2017 Swiss Super League.

Fortunately, one of their key players has made his return:

Birkir Bjarnason was arguably one of the fan favorites of this summer's Euro 2016 tournament - unless if you support Portugal (and Cristiano Ronaldo, of course). For everyone else, however, the midfielder, nicknamed "Thor" in his native country, became an icon of sorts. The 28-year-old, who spent some time in Italy before arriving at Basel in 2015, wrote his name in the history books with his strike against Portugal - which was Iceland's first ever goal in a major tournament.
