Premier League side Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Belgium star Michy Batshuayi.

The 22-year-old was part of the Red Devils’ squad that participated in the Euro 2016 before being bundled out by Wales in the quarter-finals. He was particularly impressive in his country’s clash with Hungary at the last round of 16 of the tournament when he came in as a substitute. Prior to that, he had not participated in any of the group games for his country.

The former Marseille forward scored a goal in the 4-0 thumping of Hungary after being set up by his Chelsea teammate Eden Hazard, who is also the captain of the Belgian squad. Batshuayi’s brilliant performance within a very short time earned him praises from different quarters and triggered the Blues to table a bid, which was eventually accepted.

The striker had also been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur but chose to sign with the Stamford Bridge outfit after spending two seasons at Marseille where he scored 26 goals in 62 league appearances for the French outfit. After signing the five-year deal, he told the club’s official website:

''I am delighted to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and embark on the next chapter in my career. I hope I can help Chelsea win many trophies during my time at Stamford Bridge.

''Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois (Chelsea goalkeeper) have told me many good things about the club, and with Antonio Conte coming in it's an exciting time to become a Chelsea player.

''This is a fantastic opportunity for myself and my family, I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League next season.''

Michy is expected to form a lethal partnership with Hazard up front next season following their impressive combination in the match against Hungary. With Antonio Conte preparing to take over the West London club ahead of the new season, all eyes will be on the 22-year-old dreadlocked forward who is considered to be one of the youngest and most promising talents in European football.
