Players to miss the quarter-finals of the Euro 2016

Belgium defender Thomas Vermaelen opens the list of players who will miss the quarter-finals of the European Championship due to suspension. The Red Devils face Wales in the quarter-finals, a match that Vermaelen would have played a crucial part in stopping the lethal Gareth Bale. France will also play without Adil Rami and N’Golo Kante, while Thiago Motta will be unavailable for selection for Italy.

Players back from suspension

Polish midfielder Bartosz Kapustka is set to return to the starting lineup after being suspended for a reckless tackle on Andriy Yarmolenko in their 1-0 win over Ukraine at the group stage. 

One booking away from suspension

Poland vs Portugal

Kamil Grosicki, Krzysztof Maczynski, Lukasz Piszczeck, Slawaomir Peszko, Michal Pazdan and Artur Jedrzejczyk are one booking away from suspension for Poland. On Portugal’s side, Ricardo Qauresman, William Carvalho and Pepe risk being suspended if booked against the White Eagles.

Wales vs Belgium 

A total of nine players are one booking away from a ban. They include Ben Davies, Aaron Ramsey, Neil Taylor and Sam Vokes on Wales’ side, and Jan Vertonghen, Axel Witsel, Thomas Meunier, Michy Batshuayi and Marouane Fellaini in Belgium’s squad.

Germany vs Italy

A total of 16 players who need to approach this game with caution or risk being suspended for the semi-finals. They include Jerome Boateng, Sami Khedira, Mats Hummels, Mesut Ozil and Joshua Kimmich in Die Mannschaft’s side. Italy’s side include Andrea Barzagli, Graziano Pelle, Gianluigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini, Mattia De Sciglio, Daniele De Rossi, Lorenzo Insigne, Eder, Simone Zaza and Salvatore Sirigu.

France vs Iceland

The last fixture will see hosts France battle it out with debutants Iceland for a place in the semi-finals of the competition. However, French stars Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud will have to watch their steps or risk being suspended against Iceland. The same case applies to Kari Arsnason, Johann Gudmundsson, Birkir Bjarnason, Aron Gunnarsson, Hannes Halldorsson, Birkir Saevarsson, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Ari Skulason for Iceland.
