The Dragons will clash with the Red Devils in the last 8 of UEFA Euro 2016, with both sides eyeing a spot in the semis.

The last 8 of UEFA Euro 2016 is upon us, and the second quarter-final game will see an exciting clash between Wales and Belgium. One nation are debutants and in search of making history; the latter are a side looking to take advantage of their golden generation and win the European Championship.

The Dragons made their way past the round of 16 courtesy of a slim 1-0 win over Northern Ireland, whilst the Red Devils marched to a convincing 4-0 win over Hungary. The two teams will meet on Friday, but only one can advance.

Team news – who’s fit and who’s not?

Wales will be made to sweat over the fitness of captain Ashley Williams. The Swansea City center-back picked up an injury to his shoulder during the 1-0 win over Northern Ireland in the round of 16 after a messy collision.

Chris Coleman declared that the skipper would be fit in time for the Belgium game on Friday, but admitted that caution is required with the defender. Joe Ledley, though, has made a full recovery and is expected to retain his spot in the starting XI.

In the Belgium camp, there are also worries over the fitness of their captain, as Eden Hazard was forced to sit out a training session after hurting his quadriceps in the 4-0 win over Hungary. Nonetheless, the Chelsea star istipped to be “100%” on Thursday. Center-back Thomas Vermaelen, though, will miss the game as he serves out a suspension.

Head to head

The Dragons will meet a familiar foe when they lock horns with the Red Devils, as the European sides were paired in the same group for the Euro 2016 and the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. The last meeting saw Chris Coleman’s boys win 1-0, with Gareth Bale scoring the only goal.

Wales are unbeaten in their last three encounters with Belgium, and have kept clean sheets in their last two clashes, but this will be their first ever meeting in a major tournament.
