Poland play Portugal in the quarter-finals of the Euro 2016. Here is everything you need to know about this match.

Portugal had a slow start in this competition and they did not seem to be destined for the quarter-finals. They became the first team in the history of the European Championship to draw all its three group stage games. On the other hand, Poland won their opening match against Northern Ireland, drew with Germany, then beat Ukraine in the final group stage fixture. They proceeded to the last 16 without conceding a goal but finally conceded against Switzerland in the knockout stage and won the match on penalties after a one-all draw in regular time.

One particular player who has been largely anonymous in this tournament is Poland’s Robert Lewandowski (below). The Bayern Munich star scored 42 goals in 55 matches in all competitions earlier this season but is yet to find the back of the net in France. All eyes will be on him considering the fact that his country has been battling goal-scoring problems in the competition and has not scored more than one goal in regular time.

Robert LewandowskiCristiano Ronaldo will be the key player to watch on Portugal’s side. After failing to score in his side’s first two group games in the tournament, the Real Madrid star finally came alive in the final match of the group against Hungary by netting a brace. The 31-year-old then went anonymous once again in his side’s 1-0 win over Croatia, probably saving his goals for the White Eagles.Ronaldo celebrates his goal for Portugal vs Hungary
