The 2016 Copa América Centenario is about to come to a close, but this tournament wouldn't be compete if there wasn't a rematch. That kind of game will take place on Saturday, when the USMNT & Colombia play the 3rd place match at Sun Devil Stadium. The USMNT lost the first match of the competitions against Los Cafeteros, and even though no team wants to end up playing this game, it will give both sides a chance to bow out of the competition on a high.
These teams will get to play this match after losing the semi-finals against Argentina and Chile, respectively. The hosts barely put up any resistance against the almighty Argentina, while Colombia had to wait almost four hours to complete the match they ended up losing against Chile with a 2-0 scoreline.
USMNT
Jürgen Klinsmann's crew were one of two CONCACAF countries that made it past the Group Stage - the other one was Mexico- and the only one that made it to the semis. Their opening match loss against Colombia raised a few eyebrows among the Stars & Stripes' loyal fans, but they managed to win three games in a row before their loss against Argentina. During that run, the USMNT racked up seven goals and allowed just one, and that sort of balance will be needed against the Colombians if they want to win the third place of the competition.
One issue that Klinsmann had to deal with against Argentina was the absence of key players, since Bobby Wood, Jermaine Jones and Alejandro Bedoya were ruled out of the match against La Albiceleste after picking up one-match bans. This time, Klinsmann will have a full squad to choose from, as there are no injury concerns or banned players in his squad.
Colombia
The Colombian team had everything working for them in the Group Stage, but a poor selection of players during their last match against Costa Rica sent them to Group A's second place. Their quarter-final clash against Perú had to be decided from the penalty spot, which drained a lot of the team's energy before the semi-final clash they lost against Chile.
Argentine coach Nestor Pekerman will have to reconfigure his midfield, considering that Aston Villa's Carlos Sánchez was sent off against La Roja. The rest of the squad is fit and ready to try and give their fans something to be proud of.
Head to head
This will be the 19th game between the USMNT & Colombia in all competitions. Colombia has won 11 of those meetings, conceding four draws and four wins for the Stars & Stripes.
These teams had the chance to play the opening match of the 2016 Copa América. Colombia took all the points thanks to an early goal by Cristian Zapata and a well-placed penalty by James Rodriguez.
