Spain finished as runners-up in Group D following their frustrating loss to Rakitic and Co., which included a missed penalty.
La Roja had the chance to secure three points against Croatia with a penalty awarded in the second half. Sergio Ramos stepped up to the plate in the 72nd minute to help his side secure another win, but was denied by the Croatian goalkeeper.
But Ramos is not the only Spaniard who has missed from the spot. Spain has a terrible record of failed penalties, as La Roja have missed 13 spot-kicks since 2008. Vicente Del Bosque's men have been awarded 30 penalties in the past eight years but have failed to find the back of the net 13 of those times.
Regardless of Ramos missing a vital penalty to give his side the lead, images have surfaced showing the Croatian players in illegal positions before the 30-year-old struck the ball from the spot.
The Croatian shot-stopper Danijel Subasic was nearly two yards off his goal line when Spain's captain hit the ball. In addition, three Croatian players had entered the 18-yard box before the Real Madrid defender shot his penalty. Both of these actions were illegal which means the Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers should have given Ramos a second chance.

Yet, the referee did not order a retake, which resulted in La Roja's first loss in their UEFA Euro 2016 campaign. Fans took to Twitter to react after the centre-back failed to capitalize his chance from the open spot.

Ramos misses! But the goalie was way off his line; should have been retaken, but I guess justice was served after that soft penalty call

Why is Ramos even taking that penalty lmfao

Ramos should never be allowed to take penalties, but it was a really soft penalty anyway.
