Today could be one of the most crucial game in Cristiano Ronaldo’s life for the national side, as he prepares to lead Portugal in their final UEFA Euro 2016 group stage match against Hungary needing a win to avoid an early exit.
Ahead of the tie, the 31-year-old has seen his personality come under question, and by a former team-mate, as former Real Madrid man Rafael van der Vaart described the three-time Ballon d’Or winner as “rather boring” as a person.
The Dutch ace, who currently plies his trade in La Liga as well with Real Betis, spent a season alongside the former Manchester United star prior to his 2010 switch to Tottenham. However, van der Vaart insists that he doesn’t see himself becoming close buddies with Ronnie as there is nothing fun about the Portuguese ace.
As quoted by RP Online, the Dutchman said: "I don't believe that I could be close friends with him. Cristiano is rather boring as a person."
The Real Betis striker didn’t have positive remarks to say about Cristiano Ronalod, however, hailing the three-time Champions League winner as an “outstanding professional”.
"He's the first on the training pitch, and the last to leave it."
The Portugal captain has taken heat recently after disappointing displays in his nation’s first two UEFA Euro 2016 games. Fernando Santos’ men are now facing the prospect of failing to progress, but could still finish as group leaders with a win against Hungary.
