Cristiano and Co. begin their hunt for the Euro 2016 title with a clash with Lars Lagerback’s boys in their opening game.

The UEFA Euro 2016 is in full swing, however, Group F are yet to begin their campaign in the coveted tournament. The last group will come into action on Tuesday, though, with Portugal and debutants Iceland set to face off in their opening game.

Team news – who’s fit and who’s not?

There will be no Fabio Coentrao, Bernardo Silva and Danny in Tuesday’s clash, as the Real Madrid, Monaco, and Zenit St. Petersburg men were already ruled out with injury. However, Fernando Santos should have star captain Cristiano Ronaldo firing at all cylinders after scoring a brace in the 7-0 penultimate pre-Euro 2016 friendly clash with Estonia.

Bruno Alves returns from suspension after seeing red in the encounter with England, and is expected to slot right back into the starting eleven, whilst Ricardo Carvalho is tipped to start their UEFA Euro 2016 opener from the bench.

In the Iceland camp, there are a few worries, though both Kolbein Sightorsson and Einar Gunnarsson have recovered from their respective injuries in time for Tuesday’s game. Elmar Bjarnason and Emil Hallfredsso were both suffering with minor injuries, but are expected to receive the green light to play in their UEFA Euro 2016 opener.

Head to head

Strákarnir okkar make their first appearance in a European Championship final, and they will face a heavyweight of the continental tournament that came achingly close to lifting the title in 2004.

These two sides don’t have a long history of encounters, having only met twice before, and both were courtesy of the Euro 2012 qualifiers. On both occasion, it was Selecção das Quinas that triumphed, winning 8-4 on aggregate – 5-3 in the 1st leg and 3-1 in the return fixture.

Fernando Santos crew head into this fixture on the back of a better form, with three wins from their last five fixtures and 10 goals in their last three games in the build-up to the tournament'. Lars Lagerback’s crew, on the other hand, suffered six friendly defeats en route to UEFA Euro 2016.
