Cristian Zapata scored the first goal of the competition, putting to good use a corner kick by midfielder Edwin Cardona.

This year's Copa América Centenario couldn't have started on a higher note. Even though the first goal wasn't scored by James Rodríguez or Juan Cuadrado, the Colombian side managed to score quite a beauty to kick off the tournament.

Center back Cristian Zapata will have his name written in golden letters after sending the ball into the back of the net early in the first half. The AC Milan footballer struck an amazing volley thanks to a corner kick by Edwin Cardona, kicking off celebrations for Nestor Pekerman's crew.

Curiously enough, Colombia's most recent Copa América goal was scored by another center back. Last year, Jeison Murillo added his name to the score sheet during their match against Brazil.

Have a look at Zapata's volley.
