Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez admits that his lack of success at the Santiago Bernabeu was due to his lack of minutes on the pitch.

The Bayer Leverkusen forward has confessed he could have been a star for Los Blancos, but did not have enough time on the football field to demonstrate it. Despite his slow and short career with Real Madrid, the 28-year old striker netted nine goals in his 21 official appearances with the Spanish club.

According to Marca, Chicharito believes the Madrid side did 'not let him shine', resulting in a £12,000,000 move to German team Bayer Leverkusen.

"Had I had the chance of playing 20 matches in a row for Manchester United and Real Madrid maybe I could've been the star, but we will never know.

"My numbers are there, I started 80 matches for United and scored 65 goals, while in Madrid I just started 12 games and managed to score nine goals, so the only difference is that I had enough minutes to prove my worth in Leverkusen."

Hernandez has become the unquestionable starter in the striker position for Roger Schmidt, scoring 26 goals in 40 appearances in the 2015/2016 campaign.

The Mexican international is under contract with his German side until the summer of 2018.
