Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas will miss this summer's Copa America Centenario due to an Achilles tendon problem.

On Tuesday, his country's football federation announced that the Real Madrid shot-stopper will have to miss out on the continental tournament because of a chronic tendinitis in his left foot.

Navas, who played in the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid bagging his first ever European title, has been attempting to shake off this injury for around a year, Fedefutbol stated.

The 29-year old has been suffering from this same injury, keeping him out of last year's CONCACAF Gold Cup as well.

The Costa Rican Football Federation (Fedefutbol) announced on its official website:

"It is the same injury that Navas has been coping with for the last year and which has not responded to a number of treatments that he has undergone. Real Madrid will determine the treatment for this case so it can be solved definitively.

"Doctors consider that if it is not treated promptly, the player could suffer a complication in his Achilles tendon."

This will be a major blow for Los Ticos, as Navas plays a critical part to the Costa Rican squad.

Keylor Navas will be replaced by Deportivo Saprissa's Danny Carvajal for this tournament, which takes place on June 3-26 in the United States.
