Former Manchester United midfielder Ray Wilkins claims the youngsters in the squad will have a harsh time under the leadership of Jose Mourinho.

Louis van Gaal was sacked as head coach on Monday after two disappointing seasons and failing to qualify for next season's Champions League.

The ex-Chelsea boss will be taking the reigns of the English side for the upcoming 2016/2017 campaign, but the Portuguese manager might not be welcomed by everyone. Mourinho is known to use his senior players and suppress the chances of the thriving young men on the team, which won't sit well with some of the squad members.

Van Gaal received endless amounts of criticism after giving the clubs up-and-coming stars minutes to perform on the pitch as opposed to the senior players. However, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford were just two of the Man United athletes that were able to show their potential and steal the spotlight, proving their coach right. Marcus-Rasford-Manchester-United

Yet, the ex-Red Devil believes Manchester United's starlets will not have that available chance to shine anymore when the Portuguese manager takes over, telling Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast:

"Unfortunately, that’s what comes with Mourinho, he likes the senior player, he likes a player who has already done it.

“The one thing that came out at Manchester United under Louis van Gaal was the fact he blooded eight or nine players of youth, and they all came through at a very high standard.

“So Jose knows he has that back-up in the squad, but Jose has always bought in players who are ready to perform at the top level. And that’s going to be very difficult for these young men.”
