After a prolific campaign with PSG, Sweden will be looking to Zlatan Ibrahimovic to inspire them at this summer's Euro tournament.

One of the more experienced sides at this summer's Euro tournament, Sweden will be hoping to see how far they can go in France. Led by their talismanic captain Zlatan Ibrahimović, who is coming off one of his best seasons at club level with PSG, will the Blågult be able to improve on their showing from the 2012 edition?

Sweden's UEFA Euro record

Sweden have made five prior appearances at Euro tournaments. The Blågult did not feature until the 1992 edition, which they hosted and made a run all the way to the semi-finals. To date, that has been their best ever performance. Since then, they have featured in four other competitions: in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, but have only managed to clear the group stage once, which was in 2004, when they reached the quarter-finals.

Sweden's current form

When their Euro 2016 qualifying group was announced, many had expected Sweden to finish in the top two alongside Austria. Unfortuantely, after a bright start that saw them go five matches unbeaten, they then slipped up with two straight defeats. First was a frustrating 1-0 reversal to Russia followed by a crushing 4-1 humilating against Austria at home. Despite trying to rally back, these two results proved to be costly. Russia ultimately managed to  sneak by and steal second place, forcing Erik Hamrén's side to have to secure their berth through a play-off against Denmark - which they won 4-3 on aggregate.

2016 so far has been a mixed bunch of results - four friendlies have brought about one win, two draws, and one loss. Ibra and his colleagues will next face off against Slovenia and then fellow Euro competitor Wales before taking on the Republic of Ireland in their first group stage match.

In terms of rankings, Sweden are currently 36th in the world as per FIFA and 25th in UEFA.

The man on the tactician's bench

Erik Hamrén has been in charge of the Swedish national team since November 2009, and will be guiding the Blågult through their second UEFA Euro tournament. Hamrén's first venture back in 2012 ended in disappointment as his team bowed out at the group stage, and now he will face a tough task given that Sweden find themselves in a tricky quartet featuring Belgium, Italy, and the Republic of Ireland.

Hamrén will be reportedly planning to step down from his position as the Swedish NT coach after the Euro 2016 tournament
