The two superstars were put into test earlier today when England host Turkey at the Etihad Stadium for an international friendly.
Harry Kane, who plies his trade for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, found the back of the net as early as the third minute of the game. Hakan Calhanoglu then equalized for the visitors 11 minutes later, but Leicester City’s talisman Jamie Vardy sent the home fans into a frenzy with his goal seven minutes to full-time. Kane, on the other hand, had missed a glorious chance to put the Three Lions ahead in the 72nd minute from the spot.
Quick facts about England’s victory over Turkey
- Vardy has now scored in three successive games for England
- Kane is the first England player to miss a penalty (excluding post-match shootouts) since Frank Lampard in May 2010
- Calhanoglu’s goal was Turkey’s first ever goal against England in 11 attempts
- The Three Lions have now gone three games without a clean sheet
- This was Roy Hodgson’s 50th game for England
The duo were impressive despite Wayne Rooney’s absence. The Man United forward, who is England’s all-time goal scorer with 51 goals, was rested for this clash after participating in the FA Cup final triumph a day before at Wembley.
And as expected, England fans took to Twitter to heap praises on their newly-discovered duo, who are expected to carry their Euro 2016 hopes to France.
We have compiled some of the reactions:
Would play Rooney in midfield all day, vardy and kane have to start, great duo to have up there#Euros

I'd play Rooney in this central midfield role for England in Euros, Vardy & Kane up front.

Kane and Vardy up front are a right handful! Be tough to resist playing them both.

Kane and Vardy both start.

Admit it, Jamie Vardy is better than Wayne Rooney. He's not any England's striker's mate right now

Seriously, THIS England looks great! I don't see right now how Rooney factors in.
