The hosts need one goal to make it to the Clausura 2016 finals, but Las Águilas won't make it easy for them. Who'll come out on top?

Mexican football fans will know on Saturday evening the first team playing in the Clausura 2016 finals. Club América will try to reach its 16th final tie against Monterrey, but they will need more than a smile to acomplish that feat.

Los Rayados established themselves as the most powerful team in the Clausura 2016 regular season, mostly because of their strong offense led by Argentinean Rogelio Funes Mori and Dorlan Pabón. Nevertheless, these players have been limited to one goal each during the postseason, and their contribution will be expected against the Mexico City-based club.

On the other half of the pitch, América remains unbeaten during the playoffs, winning two and drawing one. Their last away game ended with a goal-less draw against their bitter rival Guadalajara, and such a score line would see them through to the title match.

During their midweek clash at Estadio Azteca, a lonely goal by Osvaldo Martínez paved the way for América, but despite the tight score, both teams left everything on the pitch trying to prove their worth. Both goalkeepers showed their skills on the historical venue, with Monterrey's shot-stopper Jonathan Orozco saving the day by making two crucial clearances.

Martínez celebrates his goal against Monterrey last Wednesday.

This will be the third meeting between these teams in a semi-final stage in the last three years. Both of those meetings saw Las Águilas reach the title match, but the second leg was played at Estadio Azteca each time. Will the team coached by Nacho Ambriz repeat what his predecessors did, or will Monterrey finally earn some payback?
