The Ottoman team will try to prove they have the credentials to be one of the top contenders in Europe. Can Arda & Co. shock the world?

One of the most talented teams in the upcoming UEFA Euro 2016 is Turkey. Coach Fatih Terim will have at his disposal one of the best midfields in the team's history, and with that in mind, the Ay Yıldızlılar will try to reach the tournament's final for the first time.

This will be Turkey's return to a major competition, having missed each and every major tournament since the UEFA Euro 2008, when they were also coached by Fatih Terim. In fact, this will be the third time in which "The Emperor" will manage the Turks in a European tournament. Will third one be a charm for the Ottomans?

Turkey's UEFA Euro history

The red and white side will make its fourth appearance in the continental tournament. Their first taste of European football came in the UEFA Euro 1996, when they hardly put up a fight and ended up being eliminated in the group stage. Their second performance in the competition saw them reach the Quarter final stage, where they lost against Portugal in a tight match. Their most recent outing proved to be the most sucessful for them, as they reached the semi-finals of the 2008 European Championship held in Austria and Switzerland. Unfortunately for Terim's men, they were unable to overpower Germany, who ended up winning the game with a late goal by Phillipp Lahm.

Legendary Turkish goalie Rustu Recber failed to clear Lahm's shot in the final seconds of their Euro 2008 semifinal clash.

Turkey's current form

Ever since the team missed out on the 2014 World Cup, Turkey has been able to keep an ongoing streak without a loss. Since November 2014, Terim's men have played ten games, winning seven and drawing three more. In fact, that streak propelled them to the UEFA Euro 2016, taking advantage of The Netherlands' poor form in Group A of the tournament's qualifiers.

Fatih Terim's profile

The 62-year-old coach will return under the international spotlight this summer, and he will try once and for all to reach the final of the tournament with the Ay Yıldızlılar. The former defender has been in charge of Turkey's tactics in 121 games (if we add up his three terms as Turk boss) winning 63 of those matches. His current term as National Team manager has been the most successful, earning a 69% success rate by winning 20 of the team's 29 games since 2013.

"The Emperor" was considered the best coach of the UEFA Euro 2008 by various media sources.

UEFA Euro 2016 broadcasters in Turkey

Turkish satellite broadcaster Digiturk, which operates Lig TV sports channels, acquired the multi-platform rights to Euro 2016 matches. It is expected to stream its matches live online and on mobile via its dedicated service Digiturk Play. Following an agreement with Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, the tournament will also be aired live in Turkey on TRT channels and their web streaming service.
